The Elements bar and restaurant in Warrnambool has been redesigned to include a new family dining room with an indoor play center. The new offering is located in the former Mid City Motel reception hall and separate from the original restaurant, which remains popular with its regular diners. Marketing director Lauren Orero said the family dining room and “playhouse” have received positive reviews since opening. “The indoor play equipment has really caught people’s interest, but we’ve also had really good feedback on the food,” Ms. Orero said. “We’re really excited about this. We’re already talking about bringing in lunch.” Ms Orero said the reception hall was an “undeveloped area just sitting there”. “It’s likely to evolve even more now that we know the demand is there,” she said. “We are really excited and I think the menu meets the needs of everyone there, as well as the current atmosphere of the restaurant.” She said the new family dining room was born in the wake of COVID. “It was (owner) Gene’s idea to bring in the indoor play center and it was set up in about a week,” Ms. Orero said. “It was put in place during COVID. I think a lot of people took this time to sit down and assess their businesses and see how you could reappear a lot better than before.” The menu has also changed and now features an American flavor, including 12-hour cherry smoked beef brisket, applewood pork ribs, burgers, bison wings and hot stone steaks. IN OTHER NEWS: She said parents can have dinner right outside the play center, which is aimed at children ages two and up. Ms Orero said the acoustics of the old reception hall helped absorb sound and meant it was comfortable and enjoyable for parents to dine while their children played nearby. The venue has had a number of group and family bookings since the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, she said. “We wanted to provide a place for the locals to use, not just the customers of our motels,” Ms. Orero said. A few years ago, Sarah White was looking for a large-scale, reasonably priced piece of art for her dining room. Not finding what she wanted, she decided to take a brush and make her own.

As her collection grew, White, a designer at Hallmark by day, wanted a space to document her work. She turned to Instagram. At first, she was silent about uploading her works. But now she has a few thousand Instagram followers (@whitewoodcanvas), and her abstract paintings are commissioned by people all over town and sold at stores like Golden & Pine.

We chatted about his collection of abstracts, his process, the pandemic, and a few of his favorite places in the city.

Tell me about your collection of summaries.

My pieces blur the lines between structured and organic. I create with design-driven geographic shapes and patterns, targeted color combinations and subtle texture. I work both by intuition and by emotion. I compose as I go, which involves a lot of myself to successfully cover up a bunch of mistakes.

Where do you find inspiration?

I take inspiration from nature, especially the ocean, on a sad day, a happy day. I’m a huge fan of Cy Twombly and his combination of painting and drawing techniques, repeating lines and scribbles. I also love Helen Frankenthaler. Its large formats with fluid shapes and simplified compositions are breathtaking.

What does the creative and physical process look like to create your designs?

When starting a collection, I usually work in series, about ten to fifteen pieces at a time. I also set a release date before I even have a clue of what I’m doing. I work best when I have an end goal.

Above all, I need solitude to create. I need silence and time alone to deal with. At night, when the house is quiet and everyone is asleep, this is where I paint. I listen to the same music over and over and start over.

Did the start of the pandemic affect your art?

The pandemic has radically changed all of our lives, but my painting has remained the same. It’s the thing that kept me moored as we sailed through the chaos of our family, discovering totally new models of school, work, and play.

In addition, the requests kept coming in. I think people were bored with their walls and wanted to brighten up their homes with art nouveau, and I was happy to bring some joy during that time.

Favorite places

Blackhole Bakery

“Everything that comes from them is to die for, but I discovered their Mochi Donut last year and it’s my favorite breakfast. “

The Kansas City hotel lobby

“I love sipping cocktails at the Kansas City hotel because I feel like I’ve been transported to another era when I’m there. The rich architecture and history alone are worth the visit.

Vintage urban mining

“My love for design and composition goes beyond my paintings and is reflected in the way I style my surroundings. I constantly rearrange and style the objects around me. I like to walk in the curations of Urban Mining. In my opinion, they have the best selection in town.

A 16-year-old mother helped deliver her daughter’s baby on the dining room floor while waiting for an ambulance.

It was a first for Jeni Bonell, who told the Mirror she was “used to giving birth to babies, not catching them”.

She said Zariella’s birth was a “special” moment for her family, with her husband also helping out with the birth.

The couple, from Toowoomba, Australia, have a total of 16 children, aged 32 to 7.

Describing the birth of her granddaughter, Jeni, 52, told the Mirror: “I gave birth to her myself on the dining room floor. It was so special.

“To have this honor of holding my granddaughter when she came into the world was amazing.

“I didn’t have it on my bucket list, but it probably should have been. I’m used to giving birth to babies, not catching them.

Jeni’s children are between 32 and 7 years old

Jeni said she was talking to her daughter Brooke about returning to the hospital when things escalated and she started giving birth.

Brooke had already been discharged from the hospital to her home once that day because medical staff told her she was still “too early.”

“Everyone fell asleep and I stayed up with my daughter to help her breathe despite her contractions,” Jeni said.

“Then she had big contractions and things went really fast. We did what we had to do.

“We called 000 and an ambulance was on the way. A lady was talking to us on the phone but it happened so quickly that I didn’t focus on what she was saying.

“I gave birth to 16 of my own babies, so I figured out most of what was going to happen.”

After “grabbing” her granddaughter, Jeni made sure the umbilical cord wasn’t wrapped around her neck and checked that the newborn was breathing, before finally turning to her husband.

She added: “I looked at my husband with my mouth open like ‘what the heck just happened’.

“He was remarkable, he didn’t panic. He grabbed a towel and wrapped the baby around.

Jeni and her husband Ray have now accepted that they probably won’t have more children

Jeni and her electrician husband Ray remained beaming from ear to ear after the September 7 birth.

However, they have not always had such positive experiences with pregnancy.

The 16-year-old mother told the Mirror she had actually been pregnant 23 times – but suffered seven miscarriages.

She always marks the birthdays of each of her “baby angels” by lighting a candle or thinking for a moment.

Jeni said, “If you have a big family, you’re more likely to face it multiple times. I haven’t gotten pregnant since our last loss when I was 46.

“Miscarriages are a taboo subject to talk about, but so many people experience it. We were very open and talked to our children about it.

“We always celebrate these babies, they are still part of our family. Each of our lost babies has an angel baby name.

“On each of their birthdays, I often discuss it or light a small candle. It’s a little way to remember for our family.

She said it’s important for people who have lost their babies to be able to tell their family and friends about it – and to seek professional help if needed.

Jeni admitted that she once left one of her children at home during the school run

Jeni has now accepted that she will likely not have any more children due to her age.

“We would like to have more, but eventually age will catch up,” she said.

“We may have to wait for a few grandchildren. We welcomed our first grandchild in 2019.

“We said there was no pressure on the children to have any, but if they had three each, that would make 48 grandchildren.

“It would give us a lot of pleasure. I hope there will always be little feet roaming this house.

Jeni typically spends around £ 232 in her weekly shop

Jeni is sad that nearly half of her children have now stolen the nest, leaving only nine at home.

However, she enjoys being a grandmother, which means she gets “all the hugs and the good stuff and can then hand them over to their parents.”

If more of Jeni and Ray’s children have children of their own, it could make Christmas even more difficult as the family is already struggling to adjust to everyone in the house.

Jeni said, “We used to sit under the Christmas tree and hand out presents.

“But last year there were so many of us here that we had to take out all the presents and sit at the back of the house and open them all over there.

The mother said she found it particularly difficult to teach her children at home during the lockdown
(

“We will be opening them again in the garden this year, because we have even more people – around 30 so far. “

Jeni and Ray are the parents of Jesse, 32, Brooke, 30, Claire, 28, Natalie, 26, Karl, 25, Samuel, 23, Cameron, Sabrina, 20, Tim, 19, Brandon , 17, Eve, 15, Nate, 14, Rachel, 13, Eric, 11, Damian, 10, and Katelyn, 7.

They are also the grandparents of Levi, two, Aurora, two, Remington, one, Xavier, eight months, Robert, eight, and Zariella, seven.

Jeni, who typically spends around £ 232 in her weekly shop, said it’s not always easy to be a mom to so many kids – and admitted she made mistakes like every other mom .

Recalling a particularly memorable blunder, she said: “I left one of the kids at home once on a school trip.

“We arrived at one of the schools and I realized I had left one behind. Our children find it fun to answer on behalf of someone else when we make calls on the bus.

“We made a call that day and one of them answered for the other but they weren’t on the bus. After that I started looking at them to make sure they were there.

The mom struggled to homeschool her children during closures in Australia and now has a new respect for teachers.

“I taught grade 12 kids at the preparatory level. We didn’t have enough technological equipment, there weren’t enough computers to share, ”she said.

“Keeping everyone focused and motivated was tough. I now realize how much effort it takes to teach the little ones, but we got it. “

Jeni has also had to fight cancer during the pandemic after being diagnosed with kidney cancer earlier this year – four years after beating thyroid cancer.

Surgeons removed a tumor from her kidney in February.

She said: “I had open surgery and have an eight inch scar. It took months to get back on track but I’m fine now.

“I can say that I am cancer free at the moment. “

When Lone Fox’s Drew Scott moved into his current location in Los Angeles, he decided to give the impersonal space some personality. By painting the wall behind the dining table a dark navy hue and filling the alcove with shelves for a built-in faux effect, the blank canvas has become a cozy backdrop for intimate dinners. This fall, Scott gave the space a seasonal makeover with an unexpected paint color that now makes us want to grab a brush. Let this refreshed room inspire the fall update to your own home.

Don’t be afraid to paint (and repaint)

In his YouTube video detailing the fall makeover, Scott assures us that painting is one of the easiest ways to transform a room, and it’s pretty easy to fix if you end up regretting your color choice. “I’m trying to remind myself that you can easily repaint,” Scott says. Especially if you’re just painting an accent wall, the stakes are pretty low – it’ll only cost you a gallon of paint and about an hour of your time.

Whether you have furniture in the space or are planning to redecorate, it’s important to know whether the space will be filled with warm or cool tones. If warm, you’ll want whites with a warm undertone (pink, orange, If cold, you’ll want white with a purple, blue or green undertone, “he explains. In the dining room, he knew warm tones would warm the space.

“I had a few colors in mind and decided to step out of my comfort zone,” Scott explains. “I chose Benjamin Moore’s Copper Kettle. It gave all the fall feel and was an inspiration for the rest of the design. While I was painting the color on navy blue, I completely regretted it, but it ended up working! “

A (subtle) nod to the season

“I like to go to the pumpkin patch or even the grocery stores and add pumpkins all over my house. My local target or HomeGoods always has such cute fall / Halloween decor,” Scott says. “If you’re not a big fan of traditional seasonal decor, incorporate more wood tones and rustic elements,” he recommends as an alternative.

Finally, don’t forget to consider all the senses. “I also like to buy new candles for each season and the fall scents are my favorite! Introduce textures through woven textiles, scents with candles and even an autumn-themed playlist to set the tone.

A rustic brown with a hint of yellow, this paint color reflects a growing trend towards warmer paint colors. As rich browns and beiges make a comeback, consider incorporating these hues in little ways that are easy to reverse when you’re ready to switch up.

For fall decor that you can reuse season after season, invest in a set of carved wooden pumpkins. Arrange them on the dining table, side table or living room shelves.

If the kitchen is the heart of the house, the dining room can be like one of its arteries. The ambiance created in the kitchen extends to the dining room where family and friends gather to eat and enjoy the company of others.

Dining rooms can get lost in the home improvement overhaul, as many homeowners tend to focus on remodeling kitchens and bathrooms instead. Homeowners don’t have to invest a lot of money in renovations to give their dining rooms an impressive makeover. Here’s how to do it on a budget.

Lighten and brighten. Dining rooms were once very formal spaces. Dark woods, heavy furniture, exaggerated chandeliers, and other details can be found in many homes. But now that homes are built with open floor plans, dining rooms can blend in with other spaces, which have been moved to lighter colored walls, floors, and furniture. A vibrant new coat of paint can work wonders and it doesn’t cost a lot. If you can’t remove a floor, cover it with a brightly colored rug.

Change things up with covers. Covers can be changed every season to dramatically change the look of a dining room for a minimal investment. The covers also protect the chairs and can be easily washed after a spill.

Add floating shelves. Floating shelves provide much-needed storage or display space without the need to invest in another piece of furniture. Depending on the shelves, they can work in modern design schemes or even in farmhouse dining rooms.

Get rid of the clutter. It may be time to say “goodbye” to this large cabinet of curiosities and the trinkets it contains. Curiosity and porcelain cabinets were de rigueur, but many people now prefer more open and airy dining rooms. For those who want to keep the cabinet, try decluttering the interior to include only the best display items and see if the cabinet can be repainted with paint or a lightly colored stain.

Improve lighting. Make the chandelier the centerpiece of the space. Go for a bold color or an innovative design. Then add accessories throughout the space that coordinate with the chandelier.

Add a bench. Those who need additional seating may not need completely new furniture. Swap chairs for benches, which can accommodate a few more guests than chairs.

Create depth with color. HGTV says using different shades of the same color in a space can add depth. Coordinate curtains, walls, seating fabrics and accessories for a cohesive design.

Renovating a dining room does not require a large investment of time and money. A few simple steps can give dining rooms a whole new feel without exploding homeowners’ budgets.

Finding the perfect set for your dining room can be a difficult and difficult decision. What materials do I want? Which colors will be the most beautiful? How big should my table be? These are all very valid and necessary questions that you must ask yourself. Fortunately, home furniture retailer Wayfair has a wide range of home furniture options at affordable prices, so there’s something for everyone.

The Nadine 6-person dining set is an option to match almost any decor. It’s a solid yet stylish selection that should stand the test of time. But don’t worry if this selection is too big or out of your price range, there are plenty of fantastic alternatives to choose from.

What to know before buying a Wayfair dining set

How big should my dining set be?

The first consideration that you need to make is the size of your space. Be sure to carefully measure the square footage of your dining room while taking other furniture into account as well. There isn’t the exact distance you need between your table and other obstacles. However, for people to be able to sit comfortably, you will need about 36 inches between the edge of the table and the wall. You will need to increase it to about 60 inches if you want to be able to walk behind your diners.

To determine the largest table you can set up in your space, simply double any of the numbers above, depending on your preference, and subtract it from both the length and width of your space. The remaining numbers will give you the dimensions of the largest table you can accommodate.

While traditional dining sets come with chairs, some more modern options feature tables with benches or a mix of the two. Chairs usually provide more comfort for the holder, however, benches are good if you’re short on space, as they often tuck neatly under the table when not in use.

Most dining tables are square or rectangular, as these shapes can effectively seat most people. That said, if you only need two people to sit down, a round table might also be a good option for you.

Features of the Wayfair Dining Set

Dining room set materials

The material you choose will largely depend on the style you prefer and your budget. Hardwood furniture is a popular choice for dining sets because it is durable and has a graceful appearance. It tends to be on the higher end of the price spectrum, however, it is unlikely to go out of fashion and it should be strong enough to stand the test of time.

For a more contemporary vibe, metal dining sets are a great option. They are less expensive than solid wood but they can last just as long. Metal tables usually have a glass top, which is relatively easy to clean.

Softwoods and laminate are also prevalent in dining room furniture. They are less expensive than their hardwood counterparts, but they still have a good level of durability.

Dining sets can typically accommodate two, four, six, or eight people. If you have the room in your home and the budget, it’s best to buy a table that can seat two more people than you have in your household. This will give you extra chairs to accommodate guests, but it will also ensure that each member of the house has enough space at the dining table each evening.

The average dining table is between 28 and 30 inches high, from the top of the table to the floor. Wayfair bar height dining tables typically measure between 34 and 36 inches in height.

Some square and rectangular dining tables can be extended to allow you to seat more guests on special occasions. The extra surface is usually added to the center of the table. Self-service extendable tables fold up on themselves to store the additional table top within the table itself. Whereas simple leaf tables require you to store the excess table elsewhere.

Wayfair Dining Set Price

Wayfair dining sets range from as low as $ 100 to over $ 1,000. The price you pay will depend on the size of the table and the material it is made of. Tables with metal frames tend to be the most affordable, while hardwood selections are the most expensive.

Wayfair Dining Sets FAQ

Which dining table is the easiest to clean?

A. While it is quite easy to make a glass table shine, glass also makes fingerprints very noticeable, so it is not ideal for households with little ones. Laminate wood is perhaps the simplest material to keep a table immaculate.

How high are the Wayfair dining chairs?

A. Many Wayfair dining chairs are approximately 18 inches high. This is measured from the floor to the top of the seat, not the top of the backrest.

Ashley Shaw’s client was moving from San Francisco to Charlotte when she found the designer on Instagram and emailed her. She and her husband bought a house in Myers Park in the 1930s and asked Shaw to redesign the interior for their family, which included three young children and a dog. They loved the bright colors and playful patterns that flooded the Ashley Shaw Design page and wanted a similar vibe in their dining room. “This space is in the middle of the house and incorporates all the colors of the house in one central location,” says Shaw. “This decor shows how happy and fun they are.”

AN INTERIOR GARDEN
With the family room on one side and an office on the other, the dining room was a bit dark, so Shaw covered the walls with a powder blue chinoiserie wallpaper from Mural Source. The scenic garden motif features trees, pheasants and peonies that “bring a little bit of the outdoors inside,” she says. “The lighting was a challenge as there wasn’t a great source of natural light, but we overcame that with the wallpaper to really brighten up the space. “

USE WHAT YOU HAVE
The owners already had the sisal rug, the walnut table and the oval back dining chairs. Shaw therefore designed the space around these anchor pieces. She used the blue and white animal print upholstery on the chairs as inspiration for her palette. “But we didn’t agree with that,” she said. “Don’t let the perfect shade match overwhelm you. It’s good to have variations. The antique lamps with robin-egg blue bases belonged to the owner’s grandmother, and the rattan and bamboo chandelier is vintage.

AN ARTIFICIAL EYE
“It’s almost like looking at a painting, and very interesting pieces or paintings have depth,” says Shaw. The sisal rug, animal print upholstery, and bamboo chandelier create visual interest without overshadowing the wallpaper. “You want more than one thing to be interesting, and a mix of patterns and textures brings so much to a room… but this wallpaper is like a work of art in itself. Without it, the room would not take on the same dimension.
